What kind of bells did Paul Revere use to warn the British?

There were no bells just bats in Sarah's belfry. Paul Revere was notified of how the british were coming by lanterns hung in the belfry of the old North Church, one if by land and two if by sea. Then he rode through the countryside notifying the colonists by yelling it out as he rode. He himself used neither bells nor lantern/s.
